Council of Europe Days shows lives transformed

The Council of Europe is today launching a visibility project to “tell the Council of Europe story”.  The Council of Europe Days, supported by an online resource for its member states, highlights how the Organisation has helped to improve the lives of millions of Europeans by protecting their human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

Led by national focal points, the initiative is an opportunity for member states to show the benefits of their membership in the Council of Europe and raise awareness of its work in its member states.

One of the first specific initiatives is the organisation by France of a simulation of the Council of Europe.  This has gathered around 200 political science students to play the role of parliamentarians and representatives of member states within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Committee of Ministers. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and learn about the way in which the Council of Europe has made life better for people in their country and across Europe.

The Council of Europe Days takes its inspirations from the ministerial meeting in Hamburg 2021, where Foreign Ministers decided that : “it is necessary to increase the knowledge and visibility of the work of the Council of Europe, through coordinated regular events in all member States, taking advantage of our field offices, existing networks, youth groups, civil society, universities and research institutions and other partners with a view to promoting Council of Europe core values, ideals and principles, which are our common heritage, among the new generations and the general public”.
