EURIMAGES Gender Equality Outreach event in Canada

On the occasion of the 151st Board of Management meeting in Montréal, EURIMAGES will renew its commitment to gender equality through an international outreach event (Cinémathèque québecoise, 7pm), organised in co-operation with Telefilm Canada: a panel discussion with Canadian female film-makers, producers and festival directors followed by a special screening of the feature documentary “Angry Inuk”, directed by Alethea Arnaquq-Baril.

The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers adopted a landmark Recommendation on Gender Equality in the Audio-visual Sector in September 2017. This Recommendation acknowledges problems inherent in the industry from a gender equality perspective and invites governments to review their legislation and policies; collect, monitor and publish data; support research; encourage the on-going development of media literacy; and enhance the accountability processes. Through the “Aiming for 50/50 by 2020” strategy, EURIMAGES underlines its firm commitment to achieving gender equality in the film industry and promote the role of women in front of and behind the camera. Research carried out by the Fund since 2012 clearly demonstrates that there is under-representation of women in the main film production functions.
