Italy has ratified the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, during a ceremony today at the Palais de l’Europe, with Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni and Ambassador Michele Giacomelli, Permanent Representative of Italy to the Council of Europe.
The purpose of this Convention is to prevent, detect, punish and discipline the manipulation of sports competitions, as well as to enhance the exchange of information and international co-operation between public authorities, sports organisations and betting operators.
The treaty has already been ratified by Norway, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Switzerland and Ukraine. The Convention will enter into force with regard to Italy on October 1st.
