Following a meeting of the Committee of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention) on 5 and 6 December 2022, the Committee adopted key recommendations on implementing the treaty in nine state parties: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Norway, Romania and Switzerland.
Since 2018, the Committee of the Parties has been adopting - on the basis of GREVIO reports - key recommendations to states parties to ensure treaty implementation.
While all state parties are required to carry out the full set of suggestions and proposals made by GREVIO in their reports, which for the nine countries were published over the last month, recommendations from the Committee of the Parties focus on areas that GREVIO found to require “urgent” action. In its recommendations, the Committee of the Parties requests the state parties to report back to the Committee after three years on measures taken.
