Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met with Nataša Pirc Musar, President of Slovenia. At their meeting, which took place in Strasbourg, the Secretary General commended Slovenia and the President for their support for the promotion of the protection of the right to privacy and of personal data, including through depositing the instrument of ratification of the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data.
The Protocol amends and modernises the Convention, the only existing legally binding international treaty in this field, addressing the new challenges to privacy resulting from the use of new information and communication technologies. The Secretary General also welcomed the President’s support for the forthcoming Council of Europe Campaign for the Safety of Journalists. The follow up to the Reykjavik Summit was also on the agenda.
