Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić met Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda today and discussed the upcoming Council of Europe Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik (16th – 17th May).
Both leaders emphasized the need to ensure accountability in Ukraine, highlighting the Secretary General’s proposal to set up a register to record and document evidence and claims of damage, loss, or injury resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The Secretary General thanked President Nausėda for Lithuania’s strong commitment to uphold the principles of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law – and the significant role in hosting and assisting Ukrainian refugees fleeing the hostilities.
