Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met with President Nikos Christodoulides, Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos, Speaker of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou and other key personalities during an official visit to Cyprus. A lecture at the Diplomatic Academy was part of the programme.
Discussions focused on the follow-up to Reykjavik Summit and in particular on the Council of Europe’s continuing support for Ukraine. Progress regarding the Register of Damage and the protection of civilians’ human rights, including unlawfully transferred children of Ukraine, were underlined.
Other topics discussed included the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, the relevance of the Social Charter and the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law.
Marija Pejčinović Burić emphasised the importance of the organisation’s 75th anniversary. An exchange of views with the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos was also on the agenda.
