Secretary General’s Question Time at Parliamentary Assembly

Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has responded to parliamentarians’ questions at the PACE Summer session’s Question Time. During a lively Q & A session, Marija Pejčinović Burić highlighted the results of the Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik, focusing on the ambitious path to strengthen democratic security, halt democratic backsliding and respond to new and evolving challenges for the Organisation.

Furthermore, she underlined the importance of setting up a Register of Damage in The Hague (with a bureau in Kyiv) to record and document evidence and claims of damage, loss, or injury resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“The Register constitutes the first component of a future international compensation mechanism to be established by a separate international instrument in co-operation with Ukraine”, emphasised the Secretary General.

Other questions ranged from the situation in the countries of the South Caucasus to the European Court of Human Rights execution of judgments’ system, as well as the project of raising the visibility of the Council of Europe in its member states.
