Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has responded to parliamentarians’ questions at the PACE Spring plenary session.
During a lively Q & A session, the Secretary General reiterated the fundamental importance of the European Union accession to the European Convention on Human Rights, as an essential step for completing and ensuring the coherence of the Continent’s human rights’ architecture.
Furthermore, Marija Pejčinović Burić underlined how the Council of Europe is currently working on new instruments in the fields of environment, including a new convention against environmental crimes, and Artificial Intelligence, in line with the Reykjavik Declaration. She also highlighted the organisation’s ongoing support for Ukraine, including the submission of the first claims to the Register of Damage.
Other questions ranged from the situation in the Middle East to the relevance of the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe which promotes quality education to enhance the understanding of democratic culture.
