The Olympic torch comes to the Council of Europe on 26 June

On Wednesday 26 June, the Council of Europe, in the presence of its Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić, will have the honour of welcoming the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch to its Assembly Chamber. For the first time ever, the torch will enter the premises of a parliament, and will be doing so during the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. The Olympic Torch Relay will arrive at the Palais de l’Europe at about 6 pm. It will then enter the building and the Assembly Chamber, where the torch carriers will be greeted by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly Theodoros Rousopoulos.

An exhibition on the Council of Europe’s European Sports Charter will be staged in front of the Agora building from 24 June to early September. There will also be a Council of Europe stand at the public event in the Pavillon Joséphine in the Parc de l’Orangerie on 26 June from 2 to 5.30 pm.

The public will be able to see the torch pass by from the Avenue de l’Europe. For over fifty years, the Council of Europe, which is the main organisation to champion democracy and human rights in Europe, has advocated fair play and respect in sport through its work to make sport healthy, ethical and accessible to all.
