This debate was organised in the context of the current Committee of Ministers’ quarterly meeting dedicated to the supervision of the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
“The implementation of the CPT’s recommendations may have a major positive impact on the workload of the Court and on the execution of judgments”, Mr Gnatovskyy stressed. Improving conditions of detention “requires, more than ever before, collective action”, he added.
In the margins of the debate, the President of the CPT had a bilateral meeting with the Belgian Minister of Justice, Mr Koen Geens. They talked about action taken by the Belgian authorities in the light of the CPT’s 2017 public statement on Belgium and other matters arising from the recently published report on the 2017 periodic visit to the country.
