On 28 February 2024, Czechia notified the Council of Europe that it has accepted to extend its undertakings under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages to Part III (Articles 8-14) of the Charter with regard to German in the districts of Cheb, Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, Liberec, Ústí nad Labem, Český Krumlov, Opava and Svitavy.
The Committee of Experts welcomes this extension and encourages states parties to regularly review their level of commitment under the Charter to reflect improvements in the situation of their regional or minority languages.
