[19/10/07 11:00] Commissioner Hammarberg starts on Monday 22 October a two-day contact visit in Ankara to discuss with national authorities and non governmental organisations the implementation of human rights standards in Turkey.
During the visit, Thomas Hammarberg will meet representatives of the Government - among which the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministers of State and Justice and high level representatives from the Minister of Interior and Foreign Affairs-, the Chief Prosecutor of Ankara and the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA).
This visit follows the meeting the Commissioner had with the President of Turkey, Mr Abdullah Gül, on 3 October in Strasbourg, and aims to continue the high level talks with the newly elected Government and the TGNA.
