“Democracy constantly requires attention, review, and advancement. Along the lines of this logic, we undertook a constitutional reform process in Armenia, which received wide-ranging support of the Council of Europe, in particular from the Venice Commission,” said Serzh Sargsyan, President of Armenia, addressing the Assembly today.

“Since our accession to the Council of Europe in 2001, we have honoured the main commitments assumed towards the Council of Europe in terms of Armenia’s democratisation and we firmly continue the efforts of joining the Europe-wide legal frameworks – the number of conventions our country has already signed up is close to 70,” he added.

“The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict requires strict respect for the established ceasefire regime and honoring all the agreements reached in the past. The parties shall assume joint responsibility for the peaceful resolution of the conflict and find a compromise solution,” he stressed.
