1997 - Regensburg

The Regensburg townRegensburg is a German city situated in Bavaria which lies on the Danube, close to the Czech Republic.  Standing on the highest curve of the Danube, it held a commanding position where the river opened the gateway to the east.

For many years, this city with a rich history has had very close twinning links with Aberdeen (United Kingdom), Bressanone/Brixen (Italy) and Clermont-Ferrand (France).  Its twinnings with Odessa in Ukraine and Pilsen in the Czech Republic have added a new dimension to its European exchanges.  In addition to its twinnings, Regensburg has sought for many years to promote the ideal of a modern and democratic Europe through its international role as a university city and through its many cultural events.
