Ambassador Laima Jurevičienė was posted as Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Council of Europe between 2015 and 2020. She was a firm believer in human rights, rule of law and democracy.
She knew how much the Council of Europe helped Lithuania in the 90s on its European integration path. Laima Jurevičienė only naturally sought to see the same support extended to those Council of Europe Member States seeking to join the European Union. Her experience in the field of Development Cooperation allowed her to successfully chair the Rapporteur group Democracy. She actively contributed to the drafting and implementation of Action plans for Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia. She also led ambassadorial retreats to Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Her good spirits were always appreciated by her colleagues, even when the Covid19 pandemic broke.
As a former Permanent Representative of Lithuania Laima Jurevičienė was a firm supporter of women in diplomacy and multilateralism. She was ambitious and hard-working making sure that she inspired her team to follow her lead.
She also strongly believed that the Organization should go green. Under her lead the number of print outs at the Council of Europe decreased drastically.
The project “75 women in 75 years of Council of Europe history” is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Council of Europe with the Council of Europe and the Permanent Representations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
