Zurück Bureau invites Belarusian democratic forces to participate in Congress sessions

Meeting on 10 February 2025 in Luxembourg, the Congress Bureau decided to invite a delegation of the Belarusian democratic forces to participate in the work of Congress sessions and statutory committees, as a further step of its support for local democracy and self-government in a free and democratic Belarus. The Bureau also reaffirmed its support for Ukraine and welcomed the fact that the Ukraine Recovery Conference in 2025 would focus on the role of cities and regions in the country’s reconstruction. It decided to hold a debate on the situation in Georgia during the Congress’ 48th session (25-27 March) and asked the Congress’ Monitoring Committee to take up, at its next meeting on 25 February, the issue of continued dismissals of mayors in Türkiye.


The meeting was organised by the Association of local authorities of Luxembourg (SYVICOL) in the framework of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, Bureau members also held an exchange of views with representatives of the country’s national and local authorities, including the Minister of internal affairs, the Mayor of the city of Luxembourg, the President of the chamber of deputies and the chair of the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. 


The bureau also held an exchange of views with European Institute of Cultural Routes as part of the Council of Europe Enlarged Partial Agreement having its seat in Luxembourg.
