A delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, composed of former presidents and members of the current Bureau, as well as President Anders Knape, Secretary General Andreas Kiefer and Director Jean-Philippe Bozouls, took part in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe on 1 October 2019 in Strasbourg. At the official ceremony, held at the Strasbourg Opera House, the Congress President had the chance to meet the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron.
On the same day, Anders Knape chaired a “Seminar on the Congress’ history, achievements and prospects”, during which he recalled the importance of local democracy in the current socio-political context and stressed the need for co-operation between the different levels of governance: European, national, regional and local.
