The Congress is supporting the municipalities of Baranivka (Zytomir Region), Chernivtsi, Kreminna (Lugansk Region), Pervomaysk (Mykolaiv Region) and Fastiv (Kyiv Region) in Ukraine to implement participatory processes aimed at increasing the transparency of public policies implemented by local authorities. The five mayors of those municipalities were invited to attend the 33rd Congress Session, and they presented their initiatives during a meeting with the delegation of Ukraine to the Congress. They all agreed on the need to further disseminate experiences and good practices identified in Ukraine among local authorities. This meeting, organised in the framework of the project “Promoting local democracy in Ukraine”, is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2015-2017. It aims to improve the implementation of democratic principles in Ukraine, by enhancing the institutional and leadership capacities of local elected representatives, and disseminating nation-wide good practices of local democracy.
