The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) held its 113th plenary meeting from 4 to 8 March 2024.

During this meeting, the CPT adopted the reports on its periodic visits to Armenia (September 2023), Malta (September-October 2023), North Macedonia (October 2023) and Ukraine (October 2023) and on its ad hoc visit to examine the treatment of foreign nationals deprived of their liberty under immigration legislation in Greece (November-December 2023). These reports will be transmitted in due course to the respective authorities.[1]

In addition, the CPT heard oral reports on recent visits carried out to France (the regional territories of French Guiana and Guadeloupe), Lithuania, Slovakia and Türkiye. Other topics relevant to its mandate were also discussed, including the responses of States to the visit reports of the Committee and the programme of periodic visits for 2025. The Committee also reviewed the internal organisation of its work.

Moreover, this plenary meeting was the occasion to induct the eight new members elected in respect of Armenia, Cyprus, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania and North Macedonia who had recently taken up their mandates.
