- The Historical Museum and Castle Park of Miramare is the permament institution under the Ministry of Culture of Italy responsible for the management and promotion of the Historical Museum of Miramare Castle and its Garden.
The Castle of Miramare was the private residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, where he lived with his wife Charlotte of Belgium between 1861 and 1864. Designed in 1856 by Austrian architect Carl Junker, the architectural structure of Miramare reflects the artistic interests of the archduke, who was acquainted with the eclectic styles of Austria, Germany and England. A mixture of English and Italian-style, the Castle Park was originally an acclimatization garden for the cultivation and development of exotic and Mediterranean plants (www.europeanhistoricgardens.eu/en/portfolio-item/historical-museum-and-the-park-of-the-miramare-castle).
