Greece: Signature of the Organisation Agreement for the 2022 Annual Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Chania (Crete)

On October 14, an Organisation Agreement to hold the 11th Annual Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe 2022 in Chania (Crete), Greece was signed.

 

The Minister of Culture of Greece, Ms. Lina MENDONI; the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms. Sofia ZACHARAKI, and the President of the Greek National Tourism Organisation, Ms. Angela GEREKOU, expressed their support through video messages, while the Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ms. Theodora BAKOYANNIS, sent a greeting.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr Nikos KALOGERIS, Vice-governor of Crete; Mr. George DIDASKALOS, Secretary General of Culture; Mr. Dimitris FRAGGAKIS, Secretary General of EOT (Greek National Tourism Organisation); Mr. Antonis ROKAKIS, President of the Chamber of Chania; Mr. Giannis GIANNAKAKIS, Deputy Mayor of Culture in Chania; Mr. Vassilis STATHAKIS, President of the "Road of Historic Cafés" and Mr. Stefano Dominioni, Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes (EPA).

 

The 11th Annual Advisory Forum will be held on 5 -7 October 2022. This large-scale international forum is the most important event of the Cultural Routes Programme. It enables the reunion of member States representatives, Cultural Routes operators, candidate networks to the certification, international cultural heritage and tourism organizations as well as local and regional authorities to discuss trends and challenges in relation to new and certified Cultural Routes.

 

In 2011 Greece became a member State of The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA). The Representatives of Greece to the EPA are Mr. George KALAMANTIS, Head of Directorate of International Relations and EU at the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Greece and Ms. Margarita LIOULIA, Directorate of International Relations and EU at the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Greece an Vice-Chair of the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.

 

Currently, Greece is crossed by 13 certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe: Phoenicians’ Route, European Mozart Ways, Routes of the Olive Tree, Iter Vitis Route, European Cemeteries Route, European Route of Historic Thermal Towns, Destination Napoleon, Impressionisms Routes, European Route of Industrial Heritage, Iron Curtain Trail, European Route of Historic Gardens, Cyril and Methodius Route and Aeneas Route.
