The coexistence and social cohesion in contexts of diversity demand from the city councils the development of public policies for the positive diversity management, which allow at the same time to accomplish progress towards the full respect of the different beliefs and the guarantee of the effective exercise of freedom of religion. In the words of the Mayor of Fuenlabrada, "As an integrating and inclusive city, we have the challenge of managing religious diversity, promoting legal, social and institutional recognition of communities recognised in Fuenlabrada”.
In Fuenlabrada, religious diversity is already being addressed for some time by some areas of the city administration, as it is the case of the Diversity Management Team of the Local Police, the Department of Youth and Children, or the Municipal Cultural Diversity Programme (SEMI).
With the conference held on 11 October 2019, the city aims to open a way of work that will be a fundamental framework of coexistence and social cohesion in the recognition of diversity, addressing this issue in a cross-cutting and participated way.
