Casalecchio di Reno, Italy - Intercultural City
It’s been a considerate amount of time that the Municipality of Casalecchio di Reno has introduced an immigration policy crossing different sectors of the public Administration, of other local institutions and of the non-profit sector, aiming to build dialogue and interaction opportunities between Italians, immigrants and young people with foreign origins.
This because difference and multiculturalism are considered values that enrich the social and cultural life of the city.
The percentage of foreign citizens in relation to Italian citizens rises from 3,84% of 2002 to 12,18% of the 31st of December 2011, this corresponds to the 10,8% (3.936 residents) of the total resident population (36.264).
Therefore the resident population, as it has been registered until the 31st December 2011 is formed out of a total of 36.264 inhabitants: 17.082 (47,10%) males and 19.182 (52,90%) females.
The foreign resident population registered until the 31st December 2011 is formed out of a total of 3.936 inhabitants (10,8% of the total population), 1.767 (44,90%) of which are males and 2.169 (55,10%) are females. The foreign residents represent the 27,15% of the foreign population. The non-EU residents represent the 72,83% of the foreign population.
Since 2007 Romanians are the most numerous community, followed by the Albanians, that maintain their second position since 2008 and the Moldavians, who overtook the number of Moroccans and Philipines since 2010. Following are the Ukranian, the Pakistan, the Chinese and the Central African communities.
The foreign minors are 21,39% of the total number of foreign residents and 15,11% of the total resident minors. During the 2011-2012 school year, in the three Secondary Schools of Casalecchio di Reno the percentage of foreign students was the 14,26% of the total number of students (that means 458 foreign students out of a total number of 3.211 students). The foreign citizens who have acquired the Italian citizenship in 2011 have been 28.
