Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge today attended the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Side-event “Legal certainty and trust in AI: the role of parliamentarians in AI governance” organised in the context of the Spring Session 2025. He delivered a keynote speech addressing the contemporary challenges posed by the developments in the field of artificial intelligence and the role of the parliamentarians to ensure responsible AI governance.
In his speech, the Deputy Secretary General stressed that the bottom line of the developments in the field of new technologies is that “technology itself is not good or bad; it’s what we choose to do with it that matters”. Against this background, he called on the parliamentarians to promote responsible AI governance and to protect democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in the age of AI, putting people at the centre of the digital revolution.
