Two training sessions on gender equality and media for journalists and representatives of civil society were organised in Lankaran on 20-21 June 2019 within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Gender equality and media freedom in Azerbaijan". The main aim of the training sessions was to raise awareness on the Council of Europe standards on gender equality and media among journalists and civil society representatives from the Southern region of Azerbaijan. The Code of professional ethics for Azerbaijani journalists, recently revised from a gender equality perspective also presented in the training sessions to promote the new rules among the journalists.
The training sessions were organized in close cooperation with the Ombudsman Office and the Press Council. About 50 journalists and representatives of civil society from the Southern region - Astara, Jalilabad, Lerik, Masally, Yardimly and Lankaran were brought together in Lankaran for the training sessions. The participants took an active part in discussions on the role of media in strengthening gender equality standards and combating gender stereotypes and the main challenges faced by the media in the regions.
