Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department, undertook a working visit to Buenos Aires. On the 1st of August, he gave a keynote speech on "Trends and challenges of international cooperation in personal data protection and artificial intelligence" at an event co-organized by the Agency for Access to Public Information (AAIP) and the Argentinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cults. The main objective of this event was to bring together experts, government officials and civil society representatives to discuss and reflect on best practices to strengthen the regulatory framework on personal data protection and artificial intelligence. Mr Penninckx outlined, in particular, the advantages and the global impact of the Council of Europe Convention 108+ on personal data protection and the opportunities envisaged by the draft international legal instrument on Artificial Intelligence.
On the 2nd of August, he intervened at the 2nd Cyber Affairs Summit Conference, presenting Council of Europe projects on the prevention and investigation of cybercrime. Inter alia, Mr Penninckx described the functioning of cooperation mechanisms under the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. The conference was organized by the Ministry of National Security of Argentina, featuring a large array of topics from prevention, investigation and resilience to cyber-diplomacy and international cooperation.
During his visit to Argentina, Mr Penninckx also had several bilateral meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of National Security.
