On 1-2 June 2022, the CDMSI held its 21st plenary meeting in a hybrid format in Strasbourg with Mr Taavo Lumiste as the Chair. The CDMSI took note of the report of the first meetings and draft outline of the instruments that are being prepared by its subordinated expert committees: Committee of Experts on the Integrity of Online Information (MSI-INF); Committee of Experts on increasing resilience of the Media (MSI-RES), and Committee of Experts on Strategic Lawsuits against Public Participation (MSI-SLP). It further welcomed the adoption by the Committee of Ministers of the draft recommendations elaborated by the CDMSI and its expert committees during from the previous biennium; expressed support and solidarity to Ukraine and discussed possible steps to be taken to counter disinformation and propaganda; discussed activities planned for the current biennium and cooperation with other council of Europe bodies. The CDMSI also approved the observer status to the Committee of Experts on Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation of Amnesty International and the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE). Following a presentation, the CDMSI also held an exchange with a representative from Meta, moderated by Director Jan Kleijssen, on the Metaverse and potential impacts on fundamental values.
