The Committee of Experts online safety and empowerment of content creators and users (MSI-eSEC) held its second meeting

The MSI-eSEC held its second meeting on 24-25 September 2024 in Strasbourg, advancing its work on a draft recommendation for the Committee of Ministers, under the guidance of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI).

Ms. Artermiza-Tatiana CHISCA, Secretary to the CDMSI, opened the meeting by commending the Committee’s progress and emphasising the need to ground the ongoing work in Council of Europe standards on internet intermediaries, the impact of digital technologies on freedom of expression, media and communication governance, and artificial intelligence.
Members exchanged the Secretariat of Grevio and the Lanzarote Committee on relevant standards and initiatives on protecting children and women in the online environment. The Chair of the Committee of Experts on the Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Freedom of Expression (MSI-AI), Mr Andrin EICHIN, provided an overview of the current work of MSI-AI. Opportunities for synergies and cooperation between the two committees were explored.
Committee members and participants engaged in constructive discussions around the structure and drafting elements presented by the rapporteurs, marking significant progress toward the completion of a first draft of the forthcoming recommendation.
