There have been five days of discussion, dialogue and reflection around themes of global significance, from the safeguarding of human rights to climate change. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which started on Monday 24th and concluded on Friday 28th January, saw the participation, in Strasbourg and remotely, of the 47 representatives of the Member States of the European Organisation.
Undersecretary Della Vedova, who participated in quality of Chairman in Office of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, reiterated the key role of the Council in safeguarding fundamental freedoms and presented some of the most significant elements and events of the Semester of the Italian Presidency, such as the Foreign Affairs Council scheduled for 20th May 2022 in Turin.
During the Assembly, Holocaust Remembrance Day, anniversary in memory of Shoah victims which falls on 27 January, was also commemorated. On the occasion, Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi participated by video link and underlined the connection between the commemoration of remembrance and education explaining how it is especially at school that “culture, knowledge and the importance of commemorating such a Day are acquired”.
The Commemoration ended with Gaspard Perrotte’s performance who played “Wiegala” on the violin, a piece written by Ilse Weber in the Nazi concentration camp of Theresienstadt.
