Celebrating 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe at Tbilisi Open Air festival

On 21-23 June the Council of Europe and Tbilisi Open Air will team up for the fourth time, in their effort to create a space where hundreds of visitors regardless of their age, gender, religious beliefs, and ethnic background can celebrate diversity and equality, discuss human rights, and of course have fun.

2024 marks a significant milestone for the Council of Europe and for Georgia, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Organisation and 25 years of Georgia’s membership in the Council of Europe. To honour these anniversaries, various activities will be held throughout the year, including those held in partnership with the Tbilisi Open Air festival under the slogan:  "United around our values.” This message reflects the organisation’s core principles of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, as well as its support for fundamental freedoms, tolerance and peace.

At Tbilisi Open Air's "Freedom Village," festival guests can visit the Human Rights Corner set up by the Council of Europe Georgia Office. Here, they can learn about two key projects of the Office: one on enhancing equality and non-discrimination in Georgia, and the second one focusing on further enhancement of social and economic rights in Georgia. Through these and other projects, the Council of Europe is committed to support Georgia in ensuring a free, professional, pluralistic, and independent media environment, eliminating violence against women, and protecting human rights of vulnerable groups. Additionally, the organisation promotes the protection of social rights in line with the European Social Charter, international standards and best practices.

Throughout the weekend, at the Council of Europe Human Rights Corner, a well-known actress and TV anchor Ekaterine Demetradze will host an interactive game, "Find the Hidden Treasure," offering visitors a chance to search for clues, answer interesting questions, and win prizes.

The projects are implemented within the framework of the mandate of the Office and the Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027. This Action Plan addresses Georgia’s reform priorities and helps introduce legislative changes to bring the county closer to Council of Europe standards and European Union integration requirements.
