Opening of the Summer School of the Constitutional Court

On 26 July, with the financial participation of the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe: “Strengthening Independence and Professionalism of Justice in Georgia”, as well as the Council of Europe’s project: “Enhancing Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia” and the USAID Rule of Law Program the 15th summer school of the Constitutional Court of Georgia was officially opened. The summer school is aimed at broadening the professional knowledge of future lawyers in constitutional and human rights law.

Students of the summer school will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the case law of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, the Supreme Court of the United States of America and the European Court of Human Rights, and they will also participate in moot court sessions. The nine-day training program covers the following topics: models of constitutional (judicial) review in the US and Europe; The right to equality and non-discrimination: standards in the USA, Europe and Georgia; Freedom of information in a constitutional democracy: standards in the USA, Europe and Georgia.

As a result of an open competition, 26 best students and graduates of the Faculty of Law from Georgian universities were selected to participate in the summer school. In addition, successful graduates of the summer school will have the opportunity to undergo a paid internship and get employed at the Constitutional Court.

The graduates of the Summer School hold leading positions both in public and private sectors, which is a testament to the project’s success.

The Summer School of the Constitutional Court will end on 3 August.
