Jorge Calderón Gamboa

Jorge Calderón Gamboa works as a Secretary at the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice. He worked as Senior Coordinating Attorney at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica. He is also a Visiting Professor of the Human Rights Master’s program at the UN-Mandated University for Peace.

He obtained his law degree at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA), Mexico City, and an LL.M. degree in International Legal Studies at American University, Washington College of Law (AU-WCL), were he also worked at the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. He has also undertaken specialized studies in international criminal law at Leiden University at the Hague.

Jorge Calderón has also worked as a Deputy Visitor at the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City (Ombudsman). In 2014, he was appointed by México as an Independent Expert and commentator on the "International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict,” in London, England. In 2016, he worked as a Visiting Lawyer (Seconded Jurist) at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France; and in 2018, he acted as an Independent Expert at the Eighth Interactive Dialogue of the UN General Assembly on Harmony with Nature.

Jorge Calderón was a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights (IIDH), Lucerne Academy on HR (Switzerland), Santa Clara University HR Summer Program (USA), and other Master’s programs in the Americas. He has lectured internationally and is the author of several articles on international human rights.
