The EU/Coe Joint Project on Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education held its 2nd Strategic Planning Meeting for Policy Recommendations on 16 November 2022 in Ankara.
The meeting started with the opening speeches of Mr Tuncay Morkoç, Director General of Basic Education at the Ministry of National Education and Ms Pınar Başpınar, Acting Head of Office of the Ankara Programme Office of the Council of Europe (online).
Following the opening remarks, and along with the Project’s main outcomes, the policy recommendations were presented. The afternoon sessions took the form of group discussions, and participants, including the representatives of various public institutions and NGOs, exchanged views on the policy recommendations.
The aims of the policy recommendations are to ensure the sustainability of the achievements of the Project’s pilot implementation and to take steps forward in improving areas identified during the process. The policy recommendations, aim at further promoting and disseminating the materials developed in the scope of the Project, including education materials for teachers, to support them in their in-class practices and on the development of competences for democratic culture (CDC), the Whole School Model, a tool promoting a holistic, inclusive and democratic approach in schools, and training materials for teachers, to enhance their awareness on CDC.
