Within the scope of the European Union – Council of Europe Joint Project “Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education”, being implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Directorate General for Basic Education, the Ministry of National Education and aiming to integrate a democratic school culture that corresponds with universal core values as well as fundamental rights and freedoms into the Turkish national education system, the second meeting of the Working Group on “Democratic School Culture” was held on 7 -8 May 2019 at the Council of Europe’s premises, Ankara.
The Working Group, which was supported by one international and two national consultants, analysed the existing practices in basic education institutions in Turkey regarding education on democratic culture, made recommendations for fostering a democratic school culture, discussed the whole school model to be implemented in pilot schools. The Working Group also reviewed the stakeholders to be involved in the implementation of the whole school model and shared ideas on their roles.
