The fourth Steering Committee Meeting of the Joint Project on ‘Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of Court of Cassation’ was held in hybrid format on 25 October 2021 in Ankara. The focus of the meeting was the progress achieved since the last Steering Committee Meeting (held in March 2021) and the activities planned to be carried out for the period October 2021-February 2022. The need to extend the implementation period of the Project was reiterated as was the case in previous meetings and special emphasis was placed on the activities regarding the case law database planned to be established within the Court of Cassation and the training component of the Project.
Representatives from the Court of Cassation, Constitutional Court, Council of State, Council of Judges and Prosecutors, Ministry of Justice (the Directorate General for Foreign Relations and European Union Affairs), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the Directorate for EU Affairs), Union of Turkish Bar Associations, Justice Academy of Turkey, Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Central Finance and Contracts Unit and Council of Europe attended the meeting. Participation in the meeting was ensured either face to face or online. The participants acknowledged project progress and shared their enthusiasm about the activities planned for the upcoming period. All partners agreed on the need to extend the Project’s implementation period to increase its impact and to enhance and further support the establishment of the central case law database for the Court of Cassation of Turkey.
The Joint Project on ‘Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of Court of Cassation’ is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and the Court of Cassation of Turkey is the end beneficiary of the Project.
