An International Conference on the “12th Anniversary of Individual Application Mechanism in Türkiye” was held on 12 September 2024 at the Grand Chamber Hall of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye (TCC). The event was organised under the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Project on “Supporting the Effective Implementation of Turkish Constitutional Court Judgments in the Field of Fundamental Rights”.
The Conference brought together around 450 participants, including members and representatives of the high courts, various judicial organs and institutions in Türkiye, as well as lawyers from the European Court of Human Rights and other Council of Europe representatives.
The event featured three thematic sessions focusing on the “Right to Effective Remedy against the Operations and Proceedings conducted in Prisons”, the “Right to Effective Remedy in terms of Protection Measures” and the “Right to Effective Remedy in the context of Detention Centres”. The speakers included the Turkish judge to the European Court of Human Rights, the President of the 12th Chamber of the Court of Cassation and the President of the 10th Chamber of the Council of State along with the TCC rapporteurs, representatives of the high courts and academics.
The Conference offered a valuable opportunity for participants to engage in in-depth discussions on a wide range of technical issues, fostering productive exchanges between high courts across various levels.
The Joint Project on “Supporting the Effective Implementation of Turkish Constitutional Court Judgments in the Field of Fundamental Rights” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Turkish Constitutional Court is the end beneficiary of the Project.
