A new guide outlining Turkish domestic legislation and international human rights standards for child protection in the context of migration has been completed and published, with expert support from theEuropean Union and Council of Europe’s joint action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye”.
The guide provides a comprehensive overview of key concepts, and a list of international conventions, domestic laws, laws and, regulations on child protection in Türkiye. It also explains how to apply these effectively in migration, international security, and humanitarian residence processes. The procedures for working with migrant children are analyzed within the framework of Türkiye's child protection system, with emphasis on the principle of “the best interests of the child. Additionally, the guide includes an annex featuring a child protection checklist for professionals working with migrant children, aimed at helping them effectively protect and uphold children's rights in line with European standards.
The guide was developed to strengthen the knowledge of various professionals on the applicable legal regulations concerning child protection in the context of migration and to help them use the existing child protection system more effectively to ensure better protection for migrant children.
The action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye” is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”
