An Open Court Day was held in Izmir Courthouse on 25 April 2024 within the scope of the EU-CoE Joint Project on "Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members."
The Open Court Day was organised in Izmir Courthouse, one of the pilot courthouses of the Project, with the participation of students from Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Law and intern lawyers registered with Izmir Bar Association, and information on rights, procedures and support mechanisms related to the family justice system was provided to the public. The event started with an information session which included a general introduction to the courthouse, general information about family courts and their procedures and domestic violence prosecution procedures, followed by a question-answer session. Following the information meeting, a tour was organised in the courthouse premises where Family Courts, Prosecution Bureau, Judicial Interview Rooms, Front Offices and Judicial Support Bureau are located and presentations were made by the relevant unit officials on the functioning of the units.
Within the scope of the Project, practical guidelines and recommendations will be prepared by the national consultant for the autonomous repetition of the Open Court Days by the courthouses and it is planned to organise one such Open Court Day in Ankara Courthouse.
The “Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members” Project is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe and Justice Academy of Türkiye. The Project aims to ensure that the rule of law and fundamental rights in Turkey are fully in line with international and European standards and to improve the effectiveness of family courts in protecting the rights of women, children, and other family members.
