Regional cascade training sessions were held as the final phase of ongoing efforts to improve prison staff's knowledge and practices on implementing discipline and reward mechanisms in line with international standards and best practices. The experienced prison staff already trained within the same project, started disseminating the knowledge to their peers in two provinces, namely Ankara from 24 to 28 February 2025, as well as İstanbul from 10 to 14 March 2025. Participants showed a high level of interest and actively engaged with the training content through interactive case studies.
The Training covers 4 comprehensive modules on prisoner discipline and reward mechanisms based on adult learning principles, prepared by working groups members guided by international and national consultants of Council of Europe. Around 36 trainers trained under the project will deliver cascaded training to 200 prison staff in regional sessions. Additional training sessions will also be conducted in the coming months to reach staff working in other prisons across Türkiye.
This training was organised within the scope of the Project on "Enhancing the Disciplinary and Reward Procedures for Prisoners in Türkiye” co-funded by Norway, the Human Rights Trust Fund of the Council of Europe, Belgium, Türkiye, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
