Roundtable Discussion on Mediation and Arbitration Practices within the Scope of Business-Friendly Dispute Resolution Methods

Within the framework of the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Project on "Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey", the Roundtable Discussion on Mediation and Arbitration Practices within the scope of Business-Friendly Dispute Resolution Methods was held in İstanbul on 13th June 2024. The participants were the representatives of the Ministry of Justice Directorate General for Legal Affairs, business circle and representatives from İstanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye, as well as lawyers, academicians, and mediators.

The roundtable was attended by a total of 20 participants, and the objective was to share knowledge on how to overcome barriers in business disputes and to increase their understanding of favourable ADR mechanisms for resolving disputes. The meeting also encouraged the participants to use ADR methods and build their confidence in utilising these methods and promoting them among their clients and the business community.

During the meeting, the main topics discussed were the introduction of alternative dispute resolution methods and practices to the business representatives and the latest developments in the world in the field of arbitration. The challenges in the application of alternative dispute resolution methods as well as dissemination of the use of these methods were discussed comprehensively. Presentations were made by a lawyer from İstanbul Chamber of Commerce and several academicians.

The Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs are the end beneficiaries of the Project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority of the Project.
