Türkiye is strengthening its commitment to digital citizenship education, as key stakeholders gathered in Ankara for the 5th Steering Committee Meeting of the "Digital Citizenship Education in Türkiye" action, under the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye."
Hosted by the Ministry of National Education, the meeting brought together 17 representatives from several directorates of the Ministry of National Education, the Council of Europe, the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, and the Directorate for European Union Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Opening the discussion, Mr. William Massolin, Head of Office of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara Mr. Ahmet Murat Kılıç, Head of Digital Transformation Unit, Council of Europe Education Department; Ms. Monia Eldjendoubi, Programme Manager, European Union Delegation to Türkiye; and Mr. Ozan Özkaya, Head of Research, Development and Projects Department, Ministry of National Education, all emphasised the importance of fostering partnerships to enhance digital citizenship education both in Türkiye and across Council of Europe member states.
The meeting reviewed progress made since November 2024, set priorities for the next phase, and reaffirmed the commitment to integrating innovative digital practices into Türkiye’s education system. With significant potential to positively impact schools in Türkiye and other Council of Europe member countries, this programme aims to promote innovative practices, positioning it as a key contributor to the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education in 2025.
