Training on “Human Rights and Migration” was provided to the staff of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TIHEK), within the Action “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Migrants and Victims of Human Trafficking in Turkey” under the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme Horizontal Facility II. The two-day training programme was held in Ankara on 23-24 June 2022.
Through its activities and annual reports, the governmental organisation TIHEK aims to protect and promote human rights, to guarantee the right to equal treatment, and to ensure effective fight against torture and ill-treatment.
Within the scope of the training, which was adapted to suit the needs, 43 participants increased their knowledge on national and international legal framework on migration, the prohibition of degrading or inhuman treatment or punishment, the non-refoulement principle (push-back), the right to liberty and security, detention conditions, deportation and detention within the framework of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection numbered 6458, and the protection of private life and family life in the context of migration.
Certificates were presented to participants attending the training. The Deputy President of TIHEK, Alparslan Öğüt, conveyed his appreciation to the trainers and the project team for the well-organised and fruitful training, and highlighted the willingness for future cooperation with the Council of Europe.
The training was organised within the framework of the Action “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey”, which is a part of the European Union/Council of Europe collaboration titled “Horizontal Facility-II for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
