Within the scope of the European Union - Council of Europe Joint Project on “Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education”, “The Workshop to Review Teacher Training Modules” was held in İstanbul on 9-11 March 2020. The workshop which pertained to the capacity building component of the project aimed to evaluate the applicability of the teacher training modules, to be used in training of trainers and cascade trainings by the teachers in the field and to get their feedback. Among the participants were teachers from pre-school, primary school and middle school levels, national and international experts of the Council of Europe and representatives from the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) and the Council of Europe (CoE).
During the workshop, national and international experts presented the draft training modules to the teachers coming from different regions of Turkey in 3 different groups by turns, and the experts collected the teachers’ feedback. In line with the feedback received, necessary revisions will be made, and the modules will be finalised.
Under the capacity building component of the Project, 240 teachers from different branches will be trained by the Council of Europe experts with the teacher training modules. These teachers will then train their colleagues with 3-day cascade trainings in their provinces. Thus, around 5000 teachers will be trained in terms of strengthening democratic culture in their schools.
