The first round of the Human Rights and Migration training was organised in Giresun on 6-7 June 2022 for a group of lawyers of the Giresun Bar, in cooperation with UTBA (Union of Turkish Bar Associations) within the framework of the Action on “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey” under the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme. Horizontal Facility II.
The content of the training was adapted according to the needs by national experts to ensure lawyers gained comprehensive knowledge on the rights of migrants and refugees and to ensure better protection of the rights concerned.
22 lawyers of the Giresun Bar attended the 2-day training. The participants expressed their satisfaction, highlighting that their knowledge on the subject matter had increased thanks to this training, which main focused on the Council of Europe standards and international standards in the field of human rights and migration.
At the end of the training, certificates were presented to the participants. The President of the Giresun Bar Association, Soner Karademir, conveyed his appreciation to the project team for the well-organised and fruitful training and presented a plaque of appreciation to the trainers and the project team. He also underlined their willingness of the Giresun Bar to maintain cooperation for future training to be held within the scope of the project.
Human Rights and Migration training are to be organised for bar associations in other provinces of Turkey.
The training was organised within the framework of the Action “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey”, which is a part of the European Union/Council of Europe collaboration titled “Horizontal Facility-II for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
