Back Turkish Family Justice Officials Exchange Views with Swiss Authorities

The third study visit under the joint EU/CoE project on “Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members” took place in Lausanne, Switzerland between 3-5 May 2023.

A Turkish delegation, comprised of 13 officials representing the Justice Academy, the Ministry of Justice and the Court of Cassation, held in-depth discussions with representatives from the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, the Court of Lausanne, the Council of State, the Swiss Bar Association, the Court of Cassation, the Directorate General for Children and Youth, the University of Lausanne and the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law.

The visit provided a detailed insight into the functioning of the Swiss family justice system, including divorce law, alimony, custody and amicable dispute resolution mechanisms in family proceedings.

Following the visit, a recommendation report was prepared, which aims to provide guidance on the possible implementation of good practices and legal solutions in the Turkish family justice system.

The “Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members” Project is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe and Justice Academy of Türkiye. The Project aims to ensure rule of law and fundamental rights in Türkiye as fully in line with international and European standards and to improve the effectiveness of family courts in protecting the rights of women, children, and other family members.
