Open Court Day for Citizens at the Eskişehir Courthouse

Citizens were invited to attend the Open Court Day of the Eskişehir Courthouse on 9 June 2023 with the aim of increasing public awareness regarding the functioning of the criminal justice system and rights and safeguards in the context of criminal law. 32 citizens visited the Courthouse, where they were informed of the day-to-day activities of a courthouse and the role of the judges and prosecutors within the criminal justice system by the chief prosecutor and several other prosecutors and judges.

Citizens were briefed about the roles of the prosecutors from different bureaus and judges from all levels of criminal courts and they had the chance to visit different units of the courthouse, such as courtrooms, forensic interview rooms, prosecutor offices, in addition to receiving presentations on National Judiciary Informatics and Audio-Visual Information Systems. Lively discussions took place among the visitors and the national consultant on the guarantees under the 5th and 6th Articles of European Convention on Human Rights.

This was the seventh open court day event in the scope of the Project on Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey. This successful event will be followed by another open court day in a different province of Türkiye.

This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”.
