Council of Europe AI policy framework presented in the Hague

Latest Council of Europe policy orientation on AI were presented in the  Tweede Kamer of the Dutch Parliament Tweede Kamer on 30 March 2023. Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department has briefed parliamentarians in the Hague on advancement of the preparation of a legal instrument on Artificial Intelligence to safeguard human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and conducive to progress and technological innovations. He also portrayed the transversal nature of research on AI-related focus in the Council of Europe, ranging from freedom of expression to the work of police and the judiciary. Finally, he made a comparative analysis of the proposed AI Act of the European Union and the CoE [framework] Convention on AI, currently in negotiation, underlining their complementarity.
