The 5th Steering Committee Meeting of the joint CoE/EU project “Support for the implementation of the Judicial Reform in Serbia” was held on 20 June 2024 in Belgrade. The representatives of the beneficiary institutions acknowledged the continuation of outstanding results of the project in the reform of the judiciary. Following a review of the implemented activities, it was highlighted that with the support of the project, the judicial and prosecutorial council succeeded in adopting the total of 34 implementation bylaws within stipulated deadline.
The participants also commended various knowledge-sharing activities with international Council of Europe experts organised under the project, as an excellent tool for capacity building of judicial office holders. The work on improving transparency in the work of judicial and prosecutorial councils persisted, with the focus on development of the new councils’ websites as well as participation of civil society in the working groups.
The project will continue working on strengthening the capacities of relevant institutions for implementation of the new legal framework, including awareness raising of judges and public prosecutors on the rights and obligations arising from the new laws. Finally, boosting cooperation between stakeholders in the judiciary and civil society to foster implementation of the European standards remains a cornerstone of the project activities in the forthcoming period.
