Working group started work on amendments to the Law on Justice Academy

With the support of the joint EU/ Council of Europe project "Support for the Implementation of Judicial Reform in Serbia", the working group of the Ministry of Justice started drafting amendments to the Law on Justice Academy. The working group brough together representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Justice Academy, High Prosecutorial and High Judicial Councils, Supreme Court of Serbia and Supreme Prosecutors Office as well as representatives of professional associations.

The first meeting was focused on identifying the main issues to be addressed in amendments, most notably the role of the Justice Academy as an entry point to the Judiciary, continuous training of judges and prosecutors as well as institutional position of the Justice Academy. Members of the working group will provide additional solutions and changes to the current law which will be compiled by the Ministry of Justice before the next meeting in September.

Improvement of the judicial training is a key component of changes in legal culture necessary for rule of law reform. Once completed, the draft law will be provided to the Venice Commission for opinion. The joint EU/Council of Europe project "Support for the Implementation of Judicial Reform in Serbia" will continue to  support the Ministry of Justice and the Justice Academy in the process of drafting amendments to the law.
